Antibes was founded by Greek traders in the 5th century BC. Antibes was for many years part of the Grimaldi's estate and sold to the French in 1608. Antibes was a Fortress at the frontier with Savoy and it still has its fine ramparts that were reinforced by Vauban.

The Church of Antibes was once a Cathedral in the 18th century has a beautiful Romanesque chevet and a reredos by Louis Brea from 1515.
